Thompson sets school record at Virginia Tech Twilight
ROANOKE, Va. – UNCG's Joey Thompson set a new school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the third time this season to lead the Spartans at the Virginia Tech Twilight on Thursday evening.
Thompson ran a time of 9:03.9 in his race to best the previous school record by nearly three seconds that he set two weeks ago at the Penn Relays. Thompson's mark has a good chance of qualifying him for the NCAA Regionals in two weeks.
Paul Katam also had a nice evening as he finished the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:51.22. That time was just .32 seconds off the school record that was set by Thompson two years ago.
Ashley Schnell also ran at the event and she finished in fourth place in the 1,500 meters with a 4:32.07.
