Thompson wraps up competition at Aggie Classic
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Joey Thompson made his final attempt to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Aggie Classic on Sunday evening.
Thompson completed the race in fourth place in a time of 9:27.39. Thompson will try to lean on his time of 9:03.9 that he ran on Thursday at the Virginia Tech Twilight.
The top 48 runners in each event among East Regional participants will qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in two weeks.
On the men's side, Paul Katam has qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 10,000 meters after running at 29:55.65 in that event at the Penn Relays.
Ashley Schnell has a good chance to qualify in the 5,000 meters after she ran a 16:35.62 at the Raleigh Relays earlier this year.
The Spartans will head to Bloomington, Ind. on May 26-28 for the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
