BLACKSBURG, Va. – The UNCG men's track and field team concluded day one of the Hokie Invitational at Virginia Tech Friday evening in its second event of the indoor track season.
Junior Tyron Alston (Mebane, N.C./Eastern Alamance) posted a ninth place finish in the one-mile run with a time of 4:29.11, lowering his persona-best in the event by over five seconds. He finished behind Steve Magnuson of North Carolina who won the event in a time of 4:15.84
Junior Paul Katam (Eldoret, Kenya/Sacho) was the Spartans' top finisher of day one at the Hokie Invitational notching a fourth place finish in the 3,000-meter race. He tallied a personal-best time of 8:11.56 to finish seven seconds being Pat Schellberg of North Carolina for the top spot.
Sophomore Dylan Belles (Denver, N.C./East Lincoln) also turned in a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter race, posting a time of 9:00.14 to finish 25th overall. Belles trimmed three seconds off his previous personal-best set last year at the Dick Taylor Invite. Senior Taylor Day (Cornelius, N.C./Hopewell) finished 28th overall in the race with a time of 9:16.07.
The Spartans continue action in the Hokie Invitational Saturday at 11 a.m. with the final event set for 2:55 p.m.
