Paul Katam Named SoCon Track Athlete Of The Month

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG sophomore Paul Katam (Eldoret, Kenya/Sacho) was named the Southern Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Month for January, the league office announced Thursday. Katam turned in a strong month posting the top times in two different events in the SoCon.

Katam opened the 2013 indoor season in impressive fashion as he won the Wake Forest Invitation mile run (Jan. 19) with a personal-best time of 4:11.90. The time was six seconds faster than the second-place finisher and bettered his previous personal-best time by seven seconds.

Katam followed that performance up at the Hokie Invitational where he finished fourth in the 3,000-meter race with another personal-best time of 8:11.56.  His time is over four seconds faster than any other runner in the SoCon so far this season.

Katam and the Spartans return to action this weekend at the prestigious Flotrack Husky Classic in Seattle.
