Thompson named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro sophomore Joey Thompson has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 7, the league office announced Wednesday.
The pre-business administration major from Columbia, Md., has a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Thompson posted a time of 24:56.7 at the Charlotte Invitational, which beat the previous UNCG 8K record by more than 15 seconds. He became the first UNCG runner to finish in less than 25 minutes. Thompson's fourth-place finish helped the Spartan men to place third overall out of 21 teams.
The Spartans return to competition next weekend as they travel to Boone, N.C., to run in the Blue Ridge Open at 3 p.m. on Oct. 16.
