UNCG once again ranked in Southeast Region

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Coming off a second-place finish at the Southern Conference Championships this past weekend, the UNCG men's cross country team found itself ranked once again in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional cross country rankings.

The Spartans are ranked No. 14 in the Southeast Region this week, falling one spot from their previous ranking two weeks ago. Appalachian State, who won the SoCon Championship last weekend, checked in at No. 12.

Last weekend, junior Joey Thompson earned runner-up honors at the SoCon Championships with a time of 24:39.05. That time earned him first-team All-SoCon honors for the second-straight season.

Fellow junior Mike Koech also earned first-team All-SoCon honors for the second-straight season as he came in fifth place. Teammate AJ Savoia came in 13th place to earn second-team All-SoCon honors for UNCG.

As a team, the Spartans came in second place with 66 points, just 11 points behind Appalachian State.

The Spartans will return to competition on Nov. 13 as they travel to Louisville, Ky., for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship.
