Cougars garner 3-0 win over UNCG Softball team
MT PLEASANT, SC – UNC Greensboro closed out its regular season with a 3-0 setback to the College of Charleston in Southern Conference softball action Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point Field.
Jayme Durand went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run, while Shannon Howard pitched seven shutout innings as the Cougars completed a three-game sweep of the Spartans.
Charleston finishes the season 29-28 overall and 14-7 in Southern Conference play while the Spartans close out the regular season with a 19-40 overall record and a 4-17 record in the SoCon. The Cougars will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will play Furman. UNCG will be the No. 8 seed and is slated to take on top-seeded Western Carolina.
The Cougars scored all three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off UNCG reliever Danielle Byrne (4-7).
Kara Clouser was 2-for-3 to lead the Spartans at the plate. Heather Branche, Krista Judge and Adriane Audley each picked up one hit apiece.
Howard (15-15) went seven complete innings and struck out five Spartans on the day to pick up the win.
