UNCG softball doubleheader suspended by weather, will resume Saturday
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro's Friday doubleheader against Samford was suspended by adverse weather in the middle of the third inning of game one and will resume Saturday at 11 a.m. The Spartans and Bulldogs will complete game one, then play the remaining two games of the three-game series.
Saturday's first game will pick up where Friday's left off, with Samford leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning. UNCG's Laura Olenderski will be leading off. After the completion of that game, game two of the doubleheader will be played, followed by the contest that was originally scheduled for noon Saturday.
The game was suspended at 4:49 p.m. after a lightning strike in the area. While the teams were waiting the mandatory 30 minutes after the strike, lightning struck again, and with heavy rain heading toward Greensboro, the decision was made to call the action for the day.
The Bulldogs plated their first run of the day in the second inning, when Katie England led off with a double and later came in on Whitney Terry's sacrifice fly to left. Samford added another run in the third when Aaren Fisher and Kristy Lawrence smacked consecutive one-out doubles. The Bulldogs went on to load the bases, but UNCG starter Hannah Angel got a popup and a strikeout to escape without further damage.
Fans who purchased single-game Spartan All Access packages for Friday's games can contact UNCG Sports Information Director Mike Hirschman about refunds at mwhirsch@uncg.edu. Saturday's games will not be available on Spartan All Access.
