UNCG’s game at Furman suspended Saturday

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Game one of UNC Greensboro's schedule doubleheader against Furman was suspended by rain Saturday with the Spartans leading 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning. The game will resume Sunday at noon, followed by the remaining two games in the series.

Saturday's scheduled game two will now begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, followed by the third game.

UNCG (21-22, 8-6 Southern Conference) jumped on top of Furman (20-18, 8-6) with three runs in the first on an RBI single from Alex Emeterio and back-to-back RBI doubles from Eileen Horsmon and Kaitlin Merkt.

The Spartans made it 5-0 in the third when Emeterio led off with a solo home run, her fifth of the season, and Whitney Sirois later added a sacrifice fly.

Starter Amber Harrell was in control for the Spartans, as she had allowed just one hit in the first three innings. She struck out five.

UNCG and Furman entered play this weekend tied for third place in the SoCon standings, making this a big series for both teams. The top four teams at the end of the regular season advance to the league tournament.
