BOGOTA, Colombia – Incoming UNCG freshman Katelyn Bedwell led the Canadian Junior Women's National Team to a pair of wins at the III Pan American Championship in the last two days, rapping out five hits in the two games. Canada topped tournament host Colombia 9-3 on Tuesday, then mercy-ruled Peru 12-0 Wednesday morning.
Bedwell had three hits and an intentional walk in Canada's romp over Colombia. The Surrey, British Columbia, native had an RBI single in a two-run first, then singled and scored in a three-run third inning. After Colombia scored three runs in the fourth, Bedwell added a single and a run in Canada's four-run fourth and was walked intentionally to load the bases in the fifth.
Canada continued to roll Wednesday morning, scoring 12 runs in the bottom of the first to crush Peru. Bedwell had two hits in the contest, sharing team-high honors for hits in both games.
Canada improves to 3-1 at the tournament. The team will play a doubleheader Thursday, taking on Mexico at 11 a.m. Eastern time, followed by a contest against the United States at 1 p.m.
