Heavy rain alters Spartan Classic schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The final two games of Friday's action at UNCG's Spartan Classic were rained out, forcing a reshuffling of the rest of the weekend's schedule. Drexel and Utah earned wins in the first two games, while UNCG didn't get a chance to take the field on the first day of the tournament.

UNCG, Drexel, Rider and Utah will play two games each Saturday. Utah and Rider will meet at 11 a.m., followed by Utah and UNCG at 1 p.m., Drexel and UNCG at 3:30 p.m. and Drexel and Rider at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday's new schedule will pit Drexel against Utah at 10 a.m., Rider against Utah at 12 p.m. and Rider against UNCG at 2 p.m.

In Friday's first game, Paige Collings went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI to lead Drexel past Rider, 7-0. Game two was in the top of the sixth inning when the rain hit, with Utah leading Drexel, 8-2. After a delay of about 45 minutes, the rain had rendered the field unplayable and the game was declared official, reverting back to the last completed inning, the fifth. Kelsi Hoopiiaina was 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBI for the Utes.
