Softball Adds International Infielder Chelsea Strandlund for Spring Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG softball head coach Janelle Breneman announces an addition to the 2013 roster in infielder Chelsea Strandlund (Victoria, British Columbia/Lambrick Park Secondary School) Monday.

"I am looking forward to welcoming Chelsea on campus in January," said Breneman.  "I am glad Chelsea is going to be a Spartan. She is a versatile player that has success at various levels.  She has that competitive drive and enjoys the game of softball."

Strandlund was a four-sport athlete in high school excelling at volleyball, basketball, soccer and softball. She was nominated for British Columbia Athlete of the Year and was the Female Athlete of the Year three-straight seasons. She also earned the John Crowther Memorial Award for Top Athlete in 2012. Strandlund played club ball for the Victoria Devils 94' squad and qualified for nationals three times, while placing second in the province three times.

The Spartans will welcome six newcomers, including Strandlund, to last year's squad that finished 22-34 with a 10-13 record in the Southern Conference. UNCG returns 13 players and second-team All-SoCon member Katelyn Bedwell who finished the 2011 season with 11 home runs.
