Danielle Vega Named Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Danielle Vega (Rialto, Calif./Aquinas) has been named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The selections are made by the Southern Conference office.
"Danielle Vega had a great week for us offensively and defensively," said head coach Janelle Breneman. "At the hot corner, Vega made some outstanding plays that kept our opponents at bay. Danielle had great at bats throughout the weekend. She was seeing the ball very well and was a spark at the top of our lineup. Vega works hard at her game and is a very talented player."
Vega helped the Spartans go 4-1 and capture the 2013 Hornet Invitational this past weekend. She set the tone for UNCG in the No. 2 spot, leading the team with a .588 batting average (10-for-17). The freshman scored a team-high three runs, recorded four doubles and an RBI.
The Rialto, Calif., native, led the team in both slugging percentage (.824) and on base percentage (.588) last week. Vega also was 3-for-5 with two outs and hit .714 with runners on base (5-for-7).
