Softball Fall Season Recap

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Janelle Breneman, who has spent the past eight years in the SEC and ACC, has been named the ninth head softball coach in UNCG softball history, Director of Athletics Kim Record announced Wednesday. Breneman brings 17 years of collegiate coaching experience to UNCG, including nine years as a head coach at both Bucknell and East Stroudsburg.
UNCG Places 91 Student-Athletes On SoCon Academic Honor Roll
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG had 91 student-athletes honored on the 2011-12 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Spartans also had 39 student-athletes earn Commissioner’s Medal accolades, which marks GPA of 3.50 or higher.

UNC Greensboro junior Katie Stripling hit a two-out, pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the seventh to send the Spartans' first game at the Jacksonville University Tournament on Sunday to extras, but Virginia Tech scored six runs in the top of the 10th to take an 8-2 win. UNCG had been scheduled to play Virginia Tech at 11:15 a.m. and the host Dolphins at 3:45 p.m. Friday.

Twenty-six UNCG student-athletes take Academic All-SoCon honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. Twenty-six UNC Greensboro student-athletes earned spots on the Spring Academic All-Southern Conference Team, the league office announced recently. The team included 320 student-athletes from all 12 member schools, representing the sports of mens and womens golf, mens and womens tennis, mens and womens outdoor track and field, baseball and softball.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Fourth-seeded UNC Greensboro saw second-seeded Elon rally for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim the Southern Conference Championship on Friday, 6-3. UNCG senior Amber Harrell was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
