Jon Hines elevated to second assistant women’s basketball coach at UNCG

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball coach Lynne Agee has announced today that Jon Hines has been elevated to second assistant on her staff for the upcoming 2006-07 academic year.

Hines recently completed his second season at his alma mater as a member of Agee’s coaching staff in 2005-06. He oversaw the film exchange program, helped with recruiting, scouted upcoming opponents and had a hand in individual workouts.

“We are excited about Jon’s commitment and loyalty he has shown to our program,” said Agee. “His five years of experience in this program has prepared him well. We are very proud.”

He served as a student-assistant for the Spartans women’s basketball team for three years while gaining his undergraduate degree at UNCG in 2002. As a student-assistant, he helped with practice and game preparation.

Hines replaces Vickie Henson, who steps down after four years at UNCG and 12 years overall as an assistant coach at the collegiate level. The 1994 graduate of UNCG was twice named first team All-Big South and averaged 16.7 points per game during her two years with Spartans, ranking first among the school’s Division I leaders. The Canton, NC native began her career at Wake Forest, before transferring to UNCG.

Hines spent two seasons at neighboring Greensboro College as an assistant coach. There, he assisted in film exchange and coached the Pride’s perimeter players. He was part of one of the top turnarounds in NCAA Division III in 2002-03. Greensboro improved nine games in his first year on the staff, finishing with a 16-9 record.

Hines will work extensively with the Spartan post players. His appointment begins July 1 and is expected to hit the recruiting trail immediately, along with Agee and associate head coach Carol Peschel.
