Kristen Boone named SoCon Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro junior guard Kristen Boone has been named co-Southern Conference Player of the Week for her role in the Spartans three consecutive league victories this past week. She shares Player of the Week honors with Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson.

The Upper Marlboro, MD, native led the Spartans to three victories last week, including a 71-68 win over SoCon rival, Chattanooga on Jan. 2.  Boone sealed the win at the line going 3-of-4 from the line in the games final 30 seconds, snapping a 15-game losing streak to Chattanooga.

Boone finished the week averaging 16.3 points per game and tallied 13 steals and 11 assists. She is among the league’s leaders in steals, averaging 3.7 per game.

Boone had a career-night in the Spartans 67-53 win over Furman. She tallied a career-high 27 points on 10-14 shooting in and was 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Boone also collected a team-high six steals.

The Spartans are currently on a four-game win streak and Boone has scored in doubles figures in two of those games. She leads the team in steals, averaging 3.7 per game and is ranked and sixth nationally.

UNCG takes on Virginia Tech in the Greensboro Coliseum as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team, Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 5 pm.
