UNCG women’s basketball team announces 2007-08 schedule

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro women’s basketball head coach Lynne Agee announced Tuesday her team’s schedule for the upcoming 2007-08 season, featuring 15 home games and match-ups with ACC powers North Carolina State and Duke.

UNCG will participate in two mid-season tournaments again this season. The Spartans will host the annual UNCG Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 23 and 24 in Fleming Gymnasium. UNCG welcomes Boston University, UNC Asheville and cross-town rival North Carolina A&T to the holiday tournament.

The Spartans will then head to Orlando, FL, to take part in the University of Central Florida Holiday Classic on December 19 and 20. UNCG will take on LaSalle on Dec. 19 and host Central Florida on Dec. 20.

The Spartans will play an exhibition with Division II St. Paul. St. Paul is coached by former Spartan Serena King-Coleman, while former Spartan ChoRhonda Gwaltney serves as an assistant. That game will be played on Nov. 2 at Fleming.

Nine days later, UNCG heads to Raleigh for its regular-season opener against NC State on Nov. 11. UNCG opens its home schedule two days later when they host Liberty on Nov. 13 and will also host Atlantic 10 foe Charlotte on Nov. 28.

“This is an ambitious, competitive schedule,” Agee said. “We are anxious to begin our preparation for an exciting Southern Conference race, as usual.”

In addition, the Spartans will host nine Southern Conference games at Fleming Gym and will travel to High Point and Longwood in early December.

Another highlight will be a trip to Durham to take on Duke. The Blue Devils are coming off a 32-2 record last season and finished the regular-season first in the ACC with a perfect 14-0 league slate. Duke became the first ACC school to go undefeated during the regular-season with a 29-0 record heading into the conference tournament.

“This year's team success will be greatly influenced by five returning seniors,” Agee said. “Strong leadership should come from this year’s senior class.  We have the makings of a very successful team and we look forward to the challenge that this season brings.”

UNCG returns 10 players from last year’s squad led by all-conference selection Kristen Boone. The Spartans finished the year with a 21-10 record and a fourth-place finish in the regular season standings with a 13-5 league slate.

Season tickets go on sale Sept. 11. Single-game sales will be available Oct. 11. For more information, contact the UNCG ticket office at (336)-334-3250.
