Floyd named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro junior Monique Floyd was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for games Jan. 13-19, the league office announced Wednesday.

Floyd, a leisure services management major, owns a 3.75 grade point average. She averaged 12.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game in three contests on the week and had 10 assists to just five turnovers.

The Fairmont, N.C., guard notched the second double-double of her career in a win over Elon on Jan. 13, scoring 10 points and matching her career high with 10 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive end of the floor. She also dished off a game-high five assists and grabbed a game-best three steals.

Against Appalachian State on Saturday, Floyd missed her career high by just one point with a team-high 21 against the Mountaineers. She also had a team-high six rebounds and a season- and game-high five steals.

Floyd capped her week with six points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals at Furman on Tuesday. She also blocked her first shot of the season and just the sixth of her career.

Floyd is the second UNCG women's basketball player to earn the honor this season. Redshirt freshman Amy Clapper took the distinction on Dec. 23. Men's cross country runner Joey Thompson was the first UNCG student-athlete to win the award this season, doing so on Oct. 7.

The Spartans (7-11, 4-6 SoCon) return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against College of Charleston in Fleming Gym.
