UNCG to host Education in the World of Sport clinic, food drive Dec. 21
GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro's women's basketball team has several promotions set for the Spartans' Dec. 21 contest against Samford at Fleming Gym, including an "Education in the World of Sport" clinic and a food drive in conjunction with FOX8 to benefit the Salvation Army.
The noon contest is also serving as "Lunch with the Spartans" for UNCG faculty and staff, who can get free admission to the game with the donation of a nonperishable item to the food drive. Faculty and staff will also receive a coupon for a $3 hot dog and drink combo at the concession stand.
The game will also serve as UNCG's entry in the NCAA's "Pack the House" promotion.
Nine schools from Guilford County will bring fifth-graders to the "Education in the World of Sport" clinic. UNCG is expecting nearly 600 students and staff from Allen Jay Elementary, Oakview Elementary, Fairview Elementary, McLeansville Elementary, Hampton Leadership Academy, Union Hill Elementary, Kirkman Park Elementary, Morehead Elementary and Erwin Montessori schools. Those schools will also participate in the food drive.
The clinic will feature four 15-minute instructional sections about: math in relation to sports; the importance of exercise and nutrition; how sports play an integral part in current affairs, politics, etc.; and the importance of time management and good grades in preparation for college.
UNCG could also set a new Fleming attendance record for a women's game. The current record is 662, set March 12, 1994, against Radford.
