Grimsley makes pro debut in Germany
GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro alumna Gini Grimsley made her professional debut Saturday, playing 18 minutes for Herner TC in the team's 70-66 loss to the SV Halle Lions in Freiburg, Sepp-Glaser-Halle, Germany, in the Damon Basketball Bundesligen (DBBL) opener for both teams.
Grimsley scored four points and had three rebounds in her first professional game. She was 2-for-8 from the floor and had an assist, a blocked shot and a turnover. She picked up four fouls, including a pair of quick ones after checking in, limiting her playing time.
"It was exciting to be back on the court in a game that had some bearing on our season," Grimsley said. "We played some preseason games, and it was just a different atmosphere playing in a real game that matters. Everyone stepped their game up a little more and it was fun to get back at that level of competition again. I haven't felt that since I left the court last March for the Southern Conference tournament."
Grimsley, a 2009 UNCG graduate, concluded her collegiate career fifth on the school's 3-pointers list with 115 and third in blocked shots with 81, becoming the only player in school history to appear in the top five in both lists. She also finished her UNCG career second in games played with 120 and was a three-time Academic All-Southern Conference selection.
Herner TC is back in action on Oct. 3, when it will take on WWK Donau-Ries.
