Storylines
• After an 11-day layoff, UNCG will try to strengthen its hold on the top spot in the Southern Conference when it visits Davidson on Friday. The Spartans are the league's lone unbeaten team at 2-0, while the Wildcats are the lone winless team in league play at 0-1.
• UNCG and Davidson were the last teams to open SoCon play this season. Every league team other than Wofford has played at least three conference games so far.
• The Spartans enter play Friday as one of the league's hottest teams, having won three straight and five of their last seven. Only Georgia Southern, which has won four straight, has a longer active streak in the SoCon.
• The Spartans lead Davidson 27-13 in the all-time series, but the Wildcats have won nine of the last 15 and swept the two games last season.
• In the last meeting between the schools, Davidson got 25 points from Ashley Lax, 13 from Julia Paquette, 11 from Alex Thompson and 10 from Sophia Aleksandravicius as the Wildcats topped UNCG on Feb. 6 of last season, 83-53, in Greensboro. Amanda Leigh paced UNCG with 16 points, while Kendra Smith had 11. Davidson turned in a 13-1 first-half run to blow open a two-point game and cruised to the win.
• UNCG downed Furman on Dec. 20 to run its record to 2-0 in the SoCon, getting a career-high 23 points and eight rebounds from Monique Floyd. Smith had a season-high 14 and Leigh added 12 for the Spartans, who won their third straight game. The Spartans used an 8-0 run late in the first half to take the lead for good, and led by at least three the rest of the way. After Furman cut it to three with 1:17 left, UNCG finished the game on a 7-0 run to win by double digits.
• Floyd, who also had 15 points and 10 rebounds in an 80-67 win over Wofford on Dec. 18, was named the SoCon Player of the Week after averaging 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in the pair of wins. Floyd is also the reigning SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week.
• UNCG is looking for its first four-game winning streak since taking five straight from Dec. 2-21, 2008.
• Floyd leads UNCG with 14.1 points per game, while Leigh is second at 13.3. Floyd also leads the team in assists with 3.7 per game and is second on the team with 5.6 rebounds per contest. Freshman Janae' Stevenson is the Spartans' leading rebounder with 6.1 per game.
• UNCG is getting healthy production from its bench this season. The Spartans' non-starters are averaging 19.7 points per game and have gone for more than 20 in seven of UNCG's 10 games. UNCG's bench has outscored its opponent's bench in seven games, as well, and is averaging more than six points per game more than its opponents.
• Davidson has lost two straight after a three-game winning streak to fall to 4-5 overall. The Wildcats, the last team to open SoCon play, dropped a 61-60 decision to Elon on Dec. 20, missing a last-second shot for its first conference loss. Princeton dropped the Wildcats by a 67-61 score on Wednesday despite Aleksandravicius' 21 points.
• UNCG and Davidson have one common opponent thus far in Radford. The Spartans crushed the Highlanders on Dec. 11, 73-58, while the Wildcats beat Radford 71-62 on Dec. 4.
• Aleksandravicius and Kristen Johnsen were named to the UTSA Thanksgiving Tournament All-Tournament Team after leading Davidson to the team title with wins over North Texas and host UTSA.
• Aleksandravicius does it all for Davidson, as she is the Wildcats' leading scorer, rebounder and shot-blocker and leads the team in steals. She averages 17.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, both third-best in the SoCon, leads the league and is fourth in the nation with 4.2 blocks per game (38 total) and is fourth in the SoCon in steals (2.2 per game).
• Two more Davidson players average more than 10 points per game, as Johnson averages 10.3 and Laura Murray scores 10.1 per contest. Barbara Sitton leads the Wildcats with 4.2 assists per game.
