Storylines

• UNCG will try for the first 6-0 Southern Conference start in school history when it takes on defending league champion Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Saturday.

• With wins in six straight games and eight of their last 10, the Spartans are one of the hottest teams in the SoCon. UNCG opened the season 0-3 before turning things around. UNCG is 5-0 in the league for the first time since the 2000-01 season and just the second time ever.

• UNCG's six-game winning streak is its longest since winning six straight from Feb. 3-19, 2007. The Spartans have not won seven straight since a nine-game winning streak from Jan. 12 through Feb. 5, 2002.

• During its current six-game winning streak, UNCG has trailed by no more than six points (Furman, Dec. 20), and in the other five, the Spartans never trailed by more than four.

• Saturday's contest will be UNCG's fourth in a stretch of five games in 11 days. The brutal stretch began with games on Dec. 31 (Davidson), Monday (Western Carolina) and Wednesday (Georgia Southern). The Spartans conclude the marathon stretch at Samford on Monday.

• UNCG's 56-50 win at Western Carolina on Monday was coach Lynne Agee's 550th at UNCG. She is now 551-300 in 30 seasons at the helm for the Spartans. Overall, she is 597-323 in her 33-year career and needs just three more wins to become just the 12th active coach to reach 600 wins. Agee is 12th among active coaches in terms of wins and is 20th among Div. I coaches all-time.

• Chattanooga owns a commanding 26-6 lead in the series with UNCG. The Lady Mocs have won nine straight against the Spartans, including a three-game sweep last season.

• The last time these two teams met was on March 5, 2010, in the quarterfinal round of the SoCon Championship in Charlotte, N.C. The Lady Mocs took an 82-64 win behind 24 points from Shanara Hollinquest. Lakiah Hyson had 16 points for UNCG, while Agne Girstautaite scored a career-high 13 in her final collegiate contest.

• Last time out, UNCG got 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds from Monique Floyd as the Spartans downed visiting Georgia Southern, 55-51. Sophomore Dayshaun Richbow had 12 points and five steals. With Georgia Southern holding the ball and UNCG nursing a 53-51 lead with 10.1 seconds left, the Spartans got the stop they needed and Floyd knocked down both ends of a one-and-one with 3.1 seconds left to salt away the win.

• Floyd reclaimed the team scoring lead, as she is up to 13.8 points per game and leads the squad with 3.4 assists per game. She and freshman Janae' Stevenson share the team rebounding lead with 6.3 per game, although Stevenson is percentage points ahead of Floyd. Amanda Leigh is second on the team with 12.9 points per game. Richbow has a team-best 1.9 steals per contest.

• Floyd was named the SoCon Player of the Month for December, as announced by the league office Thursday. The Fairmont, N.C., senior averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in the month, leading the Spartans to a 5-1 record and first place in the SoCon standings.

• Chattanooga, the 11-time defending regular-season SoCon champion, is 6-8 on the season and 3-2 in league play. The Lady Mocs have won three straight, including league wins over Wofford and Furman.

• The Lady Mocs have faced a tough schedule so far this year, with losses at then-No. 4 Tennessee and then-No. 18 Georgia as well as a home loss to Kentucky.

• Redshirt junior Whitney Hood leads the league in scoring at 22.8 points per game and is the reigning SoCon Player of the Week. Hood scored 40 points in UTC's 93-88 win over Wofford on Sunday.

• Hood also leads Chattanooga in rebounding with 7.8 per game. Tenisha Townsend averages a team-best 4.0 assists per game.
