GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior Monique Floyd has earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District III Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Floyd owns a 3.79 grade point average and is majoring in recreation and parks management with a concentration in leisure services management.
The guard from Fairmont, N.C., is UNCG's leading scorer at 14.0 points per game and is second in rebounding at 5.8 per contest. She also leads the squad in assists per game (3.2) and is second in steals (2.0). She has scored in double figures in 18 of UNCG's 21 games so far this season.
Floyd has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week twice this season. In addition, she was the league's player of the month for December and was tabbed the SoCon Player of the Week on Dec. 21.
This season, Floyd has established career highs in several categories, including scoring and rebounding, and surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career. In addition to her scoring and rebounding averages this year being the best of her career, she has also set single-game highs in both, netting a career-high 26 points at Wofford on Jan. 29 and pulling down a career-best 11 rebounds against Georgia Southern on Jan. 5.
The CoSIDA honor is the first of its kind for Floyd, a SoCon All-Freshman selection in 2007-08 and the 2008-09 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year. She is a two-time Academic All-Southern Conference selection.
Floyd and the Spartans (10-11, 7-6 SoCon) return to action Saturday at Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
