GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former Florida State graduate assistant coach Jamey Givens has joined the UNCG women's basketball staff as its director of basketball operations, Spartan coach Wendy Palmer announced Thursday.
"Jamey is a great addition to the staff," Palmer said. "He complements each of the coaches that I've hired. He's enthusiastic and passionate about women's basketball, and he works really hard. He's dedicated, and he's definitely going to be an asset to this team."
Givens spent the last two seasons on Sue Semrau's staff at FSU, assisting the coaching staff in all aspects of the program. He worked extensively with the Seminoles' post players, including 2010 WNBA first-round draft pick Jacinta Monroe and All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-teamer Cierra Bravard.
The Seminoles finished 24-8 in 2010-11 and spent the entire season in the top 25 in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN polls. FSU downed Southern Conference tournament champion Samford in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
"I am thrilled to be a part of the UNCG family," Givens said. "This is clearly a special place, and I am extremely excited to join coach Palmer and the rest of the staff to create a culture of excellence on and off the court."
Prior to joining FSU's staff, Givens was a recruiting writer and publisher for ESPN's NoleInsider.com, primarily covering college football recruiting.
A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Givens completed work on a master's degree in sports administration from FSU in 2011. He earned a bachelor's degree in communication studies from FSU in 2008, graduating cum laude.
Givens will assume his duties immediately.
