Storylines
• UNCG will step out of Southern Conference play to host UAB on Tuesday, wrapping up a three-game homestand. The contest is set for a 7 p.m. tip.
• The Spartans picked up their first league win last time out, downing SoCon foe Samford on Saturday, 61-53. Redshirt sophomore Natalie Headley scored a career-high 18 points in the contest, while Dayshaun Richbow and freshman Jarae Savage added 12 points and seven rebounds each. UNCG turned in a 7-0 run at the end of the first half to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room and never trailed after the break.
• UNCG dedicated Lynne Agee Court on Saturday, honoring its former coach at halftime of the Samford contest.
• With just eight turnovers against Samford on Saturday and nine against Chattanooga on Thursday, UNCG has turned in back-to-back games with fewer than 10 turnovers for the first time in more than a decade. Prior to last week, the last time the Spartans had taken care of the ball that well in consecutive games came in 2001, when UNCG had nine turnovers in three straight games against Furman (Feb. 3), Davidson (Feb. 5) and Wofford (Feb. 10).
• Sophomore guard Breonna Patterson, who entered the season with career averages of 4.1 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game, is averaging a team-best 12.0 points to go along with 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in her five games this season.
• Headley is second on the team with 9.0 points per game, while Savage is right behind her at 8.7. Sidnei Harmon leads the Spartans with 5.5 rebounds per game and her 3.3 offensive boards per game lead the SoCon.
• Like UNCG coach Wendy Palmer, UAB coach Audra Smith was a player and assistant coach under Women's Basketball Hall of Fame coach Debbie Ryan at Virginia. Smith finished her playing career in 1992 before Palmer came in the following season. Smith returned to the Cavaliers as a coach in 1994, coaching Palmer for the final two seasons of her collegiate career.
• UNCG and UAB will be meeting for the first time.
• The Blazers will be the Spartans' second straight opponent from Birmingham, Ala. UAB hosted crosstown rival Samford in its Thanksgiving tournament earlier this season, but the teams didn't face each other.
• UNCG and UAB have one common opponent so far this season in Chattanooga. The Blazers opened their season against the Lady Mocs in the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 11, dropping a 65-59 decision. UNCG fell to Chattanooga 63-46 on Thursday.
• UAB brings a 5-2 overall mark into Tuesday's game and has won four straight since a 61-56 loss in overtime to McNeese State on Nov. 19. Since then, the Blazers have beaten Southeast Missouri State, Western Kentucky, Morehead State and Austin Peay.
• UAB won the Women's Basketball Invitational in 2010-11, going 20-15 and posting the program's first 20-win season in a decade. With Appalachian State winning the inaugural WBI title in 2009-10, UNCG will have faced the reigning champion of the tournament in each of the last two seasons.
• Against Austin Peay on Saturday, LaShaunda Pratt scored 13 points and Karisma Chapman added 12 as UAB downed the Lady Govs, 49-45.
• The Blazers have three players averaging double figures. Amber Jones scores a team-best 14.4 points per game, while Chapman averages 12.7 and Pratt 11.4. Megan Brown pulls down a team-best 6.9 rebounds per game despite starting just one game so far. Khalilah Watson hands out a team-high 3.6 assists per game.
• Chapman was Conference USA's Player of the Week on Nov. 27.
• UAB is allowing just 48.9 points per game, the second-fewest in C-USA. The Blazers' turnover margin of +7.86 is also second in the league.
