Storylines
• After a three-game homestand, UNCG hits the road for more than a month, starting with Saturday's noon contest at Richmond.
• The Spartans are embarking on a season-long six-game road swing. After Richmond, UNCG will head to the Upstate of South Carolina for games at Wofford and Furman before heading out to California for San Diego State's Surf 'N Slam Classic. UNCG will close out the stretch at Western Carolina on Jan. 7 before finally returning home to host Appalachian State on Jan. 9.
• After opening the season 0-3, UNCG has split its last four games, picking up wins over North Carolina Central and Samford and dropping games to Chattanooga and UAB.
• The Spartans fell 72-42 to UAB in their last outing on Tuesday. Jazz Weaver scored a career-high 12 points, while freshman Jarae Savage had 11 points and matched her career high with seven rebounds. Point guard Dayshaun Richbow had eight rebounds and eight assists, flirting with a double-double and posting season highs in both categories. She was one off her career highs in both, as well.
• Sophomore guard Breonna Patterson, who entered the season with career averages of 4.1 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game, is averaging a team-best 12.0 points to go along with 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in her five games this season.
• Savage is second on the team with 9.0 points per game and has been one of UNCG's most consistent performers on the year, scoring in double digits a team-best four times. Savage also leads UNCG in rebounding at 4. 9 per game and has had four contests with at least six, also a team-best.
• Richbow's big night distributing the ball against UAB put her comfortably into the team lead in assists with 21 (3.0 per game). The junior started the season as UNCG's starter at the point, getting the nod in the Spartans' first three games before she was supplanted by Patterson. Patterson started the next three but was injured against Samford and was unavailable Tuesday against UAB, putting Richbow back in the starting lineup at the 1. Richbow made the most of the opportunity, playing all 40 minutes and stuffing the stat sheet with the aforementioned eight rebounds and eight assists.
• UNCG and Richmond have met just once, back on Dec. 9, 1983, long before anyone on either current roster was born.
• The Spiders are off to a 6-2 start to the season, taking wins over Navy, William & Mary, Boston University, Old Dominion, East Tennessee State and VCU. The losses came to Florida Gulf Coast, which was ranked 11th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 at the time, and Virginia.
• Last time out, Richmond trailed Virginia by just five with 4:35 left but couldn't pull off the upset in falling to the Cavaliers, 69-56. Abby Oliver scored a game-high 23 points and added a career-high six assists. Genevieve Okoro had 11 points and nine rebounds.
• Oliver paces three Spiders averaging double figures with 15.5 points per game. Okoro averages 12.1, while Rachel Bilney is checking in at 12.0. Okoro is running away with the team rebounding lead with 7.8 boards per contest.
• Richmond announced on Sunday that guard Miah Register and forward Leah Johnson had left the team and would transfer at the end of the semester. Register had started all seven of the Spiders' contests to that point and was averaging 7.4 points per game and a team-best 3.7 assists per game. Johnson was sidelined with an injury and had yet to play this season.
• The Spiders boast a two-sport student-athlete in sophomore guard Becca Wann. Also a forward for Richmond's women's soccer team, Wann was the A-10's Offensive Player of the Year on the pitch this season.
• Richmond leads the nation in free throw percentage with an 86.4 mark. Individually, Oliver is 10th at 93.1 percent.
