Storylines
• UNCG's women's basketball team gets back into Southern Conference play this weekend at Wofford, looking to snap a two-game skid and move to 2-1 in league play.
• The Spartans are on the front end of a season-long six-game road swing. After playing at Richmond on Dec. 10, UNCG has games at Wofford and Furman before heading out to California for San Diego State's Surf 'N Slam Classic. UNCG will close out the stretch at Western Carolina on Jan. 7 before finally returning home to host Appalachian State on Jan. 9.
• UNCG dropped a 75-60 decision at Richmond on Dec. 10 despite a career-high 13 points from Jazz Weaver. With the Spartans trailing 7-0 early, Weaver was inserted into the lineup and couldn't miss, opening 3-for-3 from the field (1-for-1 from 3-point range) and 4-for-4 from the free throw line as she rallied UNCG into the lead. The Spiders were able to reclaim the lead, however, and used a sizable advantage on the boards (45-29) to take the win.
• Sophomore guard Breonna Patterson leads UNCG with 11.7 points per game. Freshman Jarae Savage is second with 8.1 points per game and leads the team with 4.8 rebounds per contest. Dayshaun Richbow leads the team with 3.0 assists per game and 1.8 steals per contest.
• UNCG has historically owned the series against Wofford, as the Spartans are 28-5 against the Terriers all-time in a series that dates back to the 1990-91 season. Wofford has won three of the last five, but UNCG is 12-3 all-time in Spartanburg, S.C.
• The Spartans swept a pair of regular-season meeting last season but the Terriers earned their revenge by eliminating UNCG in the first round of the SoCon Championship. The Spartans took the first meeting 80-67 in Greensboro on Dec. 18, 2010, behind 15 points and 10 rebounds from Monique Floyd. UNCG claimed the second meeting 60-51 in Spartanburg, S.C., on Jan. 29 of this year, with Floyd scoring a career-high 26. Wofford avoided the season sweep with a 69-64 win in the league tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn., on March 3, leading by as many as 20 and putting all five starters in double figures. April Moorhouse led the way for the Terriers with 20 points.
• Wofford started the season 6-0, earning the Terriers some votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. Wofford has lost its last three, however, to drop to 6-3 on the year. The Terriers lost to College of Charleston on Dec. 5 in their lone SoCon action thus far.
• Wofford has a roster of just nine players, but all nine have seen action in every game with the same five starting each contest. Bucknell transfer Morgan Wrightson, in her first season of action for the Terriers, is leading the squad with 12.3 points per game. Moorhouse, a preseason All-SoCon selection, is second at an even 10.0 points per game and pulls down 7.7 rebounds per game. Daniella Motley is averaging a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game and Rachel Brittenham averages a league-best 5.6 assists per game.
• As a team, Wofford leads the nation in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.134). The Terriers also lead the SoCon in scoring defense (54.2 points per game) field goal percentage defense (.326), and rebounding offense (42.7 per game).
• UNCG and Wofford have had two common opponents so far, each beating North Carolina Central and losing to Radford. The Spartans downed N.C. Central on Nov. 26, 70-53, while the Terriers topped the Lady Eagles 73-58 on Nov. 14. Radford dropped UNCG 75-67 on Nov. 21 and the Highlanders picked up a 63-46 win over Wofford on Dec. 10.
• Last time out, Wofford scored just 19 second-half points and made just five second-half field goals to fall to Radford at the Asheville Collegiate Invitational at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C., the site of the first and second rounds of this year's SoCon Championship. Logan Morris had a team-high 11 points off the bench, while Moorhouse flirted with a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
