2012-13 UNCG Women's Basketball Schedule (PDF)
GREENSBORO, N.C. – A visit from Atlantic Coast Conference member Florida State and 15 home games at Fleming Gymnasium highlight the 2012-13 UNCG women's basketball schedule, released in its entirety Wednesday by second-year head coach Wendy Palmer.
The Spartans have scheduled 10 games against teams that qualified for postseason play a season ago, including seven in Southern Conference action alone.
"I am excited to release our schedule for the upcoming season," Palmer said. "We play a number of teams which qualified for the postseason last year so we will be tested early and often. Our program is continuing to grow and I invite Spartan fans to come out and witness that growth."
The Spartans open the season with a tilt against 2012 Women's Basketball Invitational participant Charleston Southern Nov. 10 in Asheville, N.C., as part of the Big South Challenge before hosting Radford and Gardner-Webb on the 13th and 17th respectively. After a road affair at defending Big South champion Liberty (Nov. 27), UNCG begins Southern Conference play with a road contest at Western Carolina (Dec.1) and a home matchup with College of Charleston (Dec. 3).
The five-game homestand continues with tilts against Richmond (Dec. 8), Norfolk State (Dec. 15) and N.C. Central (Dec. 19) before the Spartans and Seminoles clash Dec. 22 at the Greensboro Coliseum. That contest serves as a doubleheader with the men's squad who also entertains another ACC foe in Wake Forest.
After closing the calendar year at UAB (Dec. 30), UNCG begins 2013 with two home league games against 2012 WNIT qualifier Chattanooga (Jan. 5) and defending SoCon champion Samford (Jan. 7) before heading back on the road to face Furman (Jan. 12), Elon (Jan. 14) and WNIT participant Appalachian State (Jan. 20). The Spartans then close the month with two home games against WNIT qualifier Davidson (Jan. 23) and Georgia Southern (Jan. 26) and a contest at Wofford (Jan. 28).
During the remainder of its league slate, UNCG will host Western Carolina (Feb. 2), Elon (Feb. 16), Furman (Feb. 18), Appalachian State (Feb. 23) and Wofford (March 4) while traveling to face College of Charleston (Feb. 4), Samford (Feb. 9), Chattanooga (Feb. 11), Davidson (Feb. 20) and Georgia Southern (March 2).
The 2013 Southern Conference Women's Basketball Championship is scheduled for March 8-11 in Asheville. The winner of the event receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.
