UNCG sixth after round one of Sea Trail Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Columbia holds a six shot lead over Western Carolina after one round at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament.

Winthrop’s Erin White, Columbia’s Christy Yun and Western Carolina’s Ashley Hovda share the overall lead after each player fired a 68 in round one.  The trio holds a one shot lead over Bethune Cookeman’s Maria Dunne who fired a 69 in the opening round.

UNC Greensboro sits in sixth place and trails Columbia by 18 strokes after the Spartans shot a 307 in round one.  Sophomore Gabby DiMora paced the Spartans as she fired a 74 on the tournament’s opening day, leaving her tied for 12th place.  Jenna Schmidt shot a round one 77 and finished the afternoon second for the Spartans and 20th overall.

Playing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Jennifer Link sits tied for 29th place along with teammate Ashley Mylton after the duo shot a 78.  Ashley Parrot rounded out the Spartans participation, shooting an 81 on day one.

The tournament resumes Sunday morning.
