Women's Golf team is tied for 14th after 36 holes at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro women’s golf team sits in a tie for 14th place among 18 teams after 36 holes of the 2006 Cougar Classic on Monday at the par 72, 6,092 yard Yeamans Hall Club. UNCG shot a two-round total of 617.

Junior Gabby Dimora fired rounds of 77 and a one-over 73 to finish tied for 35th to lead UNCG after day one of the tournament. The Auburn, NY native fired the Spartans best round of the day after three birdies, four bogeys and 11 pars during her second round.

Freshman Sofia Aidemark enjoyed a nice collegiate debut with a two-over 74 and a round of 79 later in the day to place in a tie for 46th.

UNC’s Lauren Hunt and Florida State’s Whitney Brummett are tied for the individual lead after each shot four-under par on the day.

The Tar Heels and LSU are tied atop the team standings at three-over 579. Alabama is a shot back, followed by Tennessee at 587.

The Spartans were tied for 13th after firing a 305 in round one. Aidemark’s 74 put her in a tie for 21st after 18 holes.

Hunt shot a three-under 69 to hold a one-stroke lead after the initial 18 holes. Hunt pushed the Tar Heels to the top of the leader board with a two-under 286 team score to lead Furman by six strokes.

The Cougar Classic concludes tomorrow with 18 holes beginning at 9 am.
