Spartans 11th after opening round at SunTrust Lady Gator

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Erica Creed fired an opening round 76 to lead UNCG to an 11th place standing after the opening round at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida.

Creed recovered from a bumpy front 9 to sit in a tie for 27t h place after 18 holes. Four straight bogies left her at 40 at the turn, but she birdied 10 and 11 to start the back 9 and shot a 36 on the back side.

North Carolina’s Sydney Crane holds the individual lead after an opening round 66. She leads Louisville’s Cindy LaCrosse and Florida’s Tiffany Chudy by three shots.

Florida has the team lead, shooting a tournament record 280 on Friday. The Lady Gators lead Louisville by 10 shots and North Carolina by 12. UNCG is in a tie for 11th with Colorado after carding a team score of 312.

Tee times for the second round begin at 8:30 am with UNCG’s players getting underway at 9:15 am on Saturday.
