Creed finishes tied for ninth, Spartans place fifth at SoCon Tourney
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Erica
Creed’s final round 78 was enough for a Top 10 finish
individually as UNC Greensboro closed out play at the Southern
Conference Women’s Golf Championship with a fifth-place team
finish.
A sophomore from Kernersville, NC, Creed’s final round 78 put
her in a tie for ninth place with a 54-hole total of 236. It marked
the second straight year she finished in the Top 10 at the SoCon
Championship, having finished fifth last year.
Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer successfully defended her title, becoming the first player in eight years to win consecutive SoCon titles. Her final round 74 gave her a 54-hole total of 223 and a four-shot win over Elon’s Danielle Mills. Mills was the runner-up for the second consecutive season.
The Spartans tied for fifth with a team score of 962. Furman won the tournament and the NCAA Tournament’s automatic bid with a score of 916, carding a final round 305. The Lady Paladins were 22 shots better than Chattanooga in coasting to the win. Elon was third at 955, followed by College of Charleston at 961 and UNCG.
It was the fourth straight year that the Spartans finished in the Top 5 at the conference championship. Furman has won 13 of the 16 conference titles.
