GREENSBORO, N.C. - Erica Creed bounced back on Monday to shoot a career-best two-under 69 to lead UNC Greensboro to a team total of 292 and put a firm hold on its second place standing at the 2009 UNCG Starmount Fall Classic.
Creed, a junior from Kernersville, N.C., carded her career-best round of 69 one day after shooting 78 in the opening round. Her score tied for the low round of the day with tournament leader Mary Mattson of Campbell. Creed is now tied for fifth in the individual standings, two shots out of second and seven shots out of the lead.
Mattson is the individual leader at two-under par 140 after 36 holes. She has a five-shot lead entering Tuesday's final round over UNC Wilmington's Ashley Tait. The two will play together on Tuesday in the final group along with UNCG's Annelie Weimenhog, who is tied for third after a round of 74 on Monday.
UNCG sophomore Lauren Smith is sixth at six-over 148 after her second consecutive 74.
Campbell leads the team standings at 585, five shots better than UNCG. UNC Wilmington is third at 605, followed by James Madison and NC State.
Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Tee times off No. 1 begin at 8:30 a.m. and off No. 10 at 8:45 a.m. UNCG's players will go off No. 1 beginning at 10 a.m.
