Weimenhog shoots 72 as Spartans close out play at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - Annelie Weimenhog fired a final round 72 to finish 15th and help UNC Greensboro to a 13th place finish to open the 2009-10 season at the Duramed Cougar Classic played at Yeaman's Hall. 

Weimenhog, who tied her career low with a 69 in Sunday morning's opening round, had a steady even-par round as she recorded 16 pars, one birdie and one bogey to record UNCG's low round of the day. Weimenhog, a senior from Kattarp, Sweden, wound up with a tournament total of 217.

The Spartans carded a final round 304 as a team to finish the tournament at 905. Georgia won the team title with a score of 850, seven shots better than Florida State. North Carolina was third at 869.

The Bulldogs' Marta Silva Zamora won the individual title with a final score of 208. She carded a final round 70 for her third sub-par round of the tourney, finishing one shot better than Florida State's Lacey Agnew.

UNCG freshman Courtney Taylor was the next-best scorer for the Spartans. The Gastonia, N.C. native tied for 39th place in her collegiate debut, finishing with a 54-hole score of 224 (76-72-76).

The Spartans return to action on Friday when they open play at The Lady Paladin Classic in Greenville, S.C.
