UNCG eighth after opening round at Lady Paladin

GREENVILLE, S.C. - On a day when wind and rain were a big factor, UNC Greensboro found itself in a tie for eighth place among 17 teams at the Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman University.

The Spartans shot 320 as a team on a day when none of the 94 golfers shot under par for the afternoon. Play was held up for more than an hour to begin the day due to rainy conditions.

East Tennessee State and Nova Southeastern are tied for the lead in the team standings after the opening round at 306. Stetson is third, five shots back. UNCG is in a four-way tie for eighth place with Furman, East Carolina and UNC Wilmington, 14 shots off the pace.

East Tennessee State's Laura Jansone is the individual leader after carding an opening round 73. She has a one shot lead over Florida International's Paula Hurtado. UNCG freshman Courtney Taylor had the Spartans' low round of the day on Friday, shooting a 79.

The teams will be back at it on Saturday morning at 8:30 am off both sides. UNCG's groups will begin play off of No. 1 at 8:30 am.
