Taylor named SoCon Freshman of the Year
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - UNC Greensboro freshman Courtney Taylor was named the Southern Conference Women's Golf Freshman of the Year on Tuesday at the conclusion of the conference championship.
Taylor, a native of Gastonia, N.C., also earned all-conference and all-freshman honors in the balloting of the league's coaches. She became the first Spartan to win the SoCon Freshman of the Year award in women's golf since Anna Hoffanen in 1998.
Taylor finished fifth in the league championship on Tuesday, completing a season in which she was UNCG's statistical leader just about throughout the season and enter the conference tournament fifth in the league in stroke average at 75.41. Including the SoCon Tournament, she had five Top 10 finishes and finished in the top 10 in four of her last six tournaments.
