UNCG unveils 2010-11 women's golf slate

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's golf coach Emily Marron announced Friday her squad's schedule for the upcoming 2010-11 season.

The Spartans, led by 2010 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year Courtney Taylor, will host two tournaments during the season – the UNCG-Starmount Forest Fall Classic in the fall and the Bryan National Collegiate, co-hosted with Wake Forest, in the spring – that will consist of nine regular season events and the Southern Conference Championship.

The Spartans will open the fall portion of the 2010-11 schedule for the fifth straight season in Charleston, S.C. at the Cougar Classic. That tournament will get underway on Sept. 12. Last year, UNCG finished 13th among 18 teams on the track at Yeaman's Hall Golf Club.

UNCG will come home to host the UNCG-Starmount Forest Fall Classic at historic Starmount Forest Country Club on Sept. 26-28. UNCG finished second last year after winning the inaugural event in 2008.

The Spartans will play three more events in October, beginning with a visit to Highland Park, Ill. for the Windy City collegiate on Oct. 4 and 5. UNCG will play in the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship on Oct. 8-10 in Knoxville, Tenn. and then close out the month at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. on Oct. 22-24.

UNCG will open the spring slate Mar. 6-7 when they make a return trip to the Lady Gator Invite in Gainesville, Fla. The Spartans will play in Florida again the following weekend, moving over to the Atlantic Coast to play in Jacksonville at the JMU Eagle Landing Invite.

Two weeks later, the Spartans and Wake Forest will serve as co-hosts for the 13th annual Bryan National Collegiate. Each year the tournament attracts the best women's collegiate teams in the nation to Bryan Park Golf Club. This year's tournament will take place on March 24-26.

The Spartans will close out the regular season with a return trip to the Wilmington area to play at the Lady Seahawk Invite in Wallace, N.C. on April 4-5. Two weeks later, UNCG will play in the Southern Conference Championship at Hilton Head, S.C.'s Moss Creek Country Club on April 17-19.
