DAHLONEGA, Ga. – UNCG women's golfers Rachel Uremovich and Courtney Taylor will be among 110 golfers playing in the 1st Annual Hooters Women's Collegiate Team Championship Presented by the National Golf Coaches Association beginning Tuesday at Achasta by Reynolds.
The field will be competing in 55 two-person teams and is comprised of some of the top current women's collegiate golfers. Each team will pair players from the same university in a 54-hole stroke play event.
The format of the championship is Tuesday will be alternate shot, Wednesday will be Best Ball, and Thursday will be aggregate score of the two players.
Top 50 Golfstat-ranked Division I players from this past year that will be participating in the championship include Cheyenne Woods of Wake Forest, Brittany Altomare from Virginia, Furman's Stefanie Kenoyer, Emilie Burger from Georgia, and Brooke Pancake of Alabama.
Taylor was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and an all-conference selection last season. The native of Gastonia, N.C finished fifth in the league in stroke average at 75.41. She recorded five Top 10 finishes in her rookie season, with four of those coming in her final six tournaments of the year. She finished fifth at the SoCon Championship in April.
Uremovich is a native of Hilton Head, S.C., who sat out this past season as a redshirt after earning all-state all four years in high school. She was the 2006 Carolinas Junior Player of the Year, winning the South Carolina Junior Girls' Match Play Championship and the Twin States' Junior Girls' Championship that year. She played earlier this summer in the Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Monday's opening round will have Taylor and Uremovich teeing off at 9:48 a.m. off of No. 1 and playing with Mercer's Jessica Arthur and Keri Lynn Carson.
Achasta by Reynolds is located in Dahlonega, Ga. one hour north of Atlanta. The par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course is situated in a picturesque valley. The course is laid out at 6,995 yards.
