UNCG 10th after opening round at Cougar Classic; Bundy shoots 73

CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNCG freshman Lizzie Bundy began her collegiate career with an opening round 73 on Yeamans Hall to lead UNCG to a tie for 10th place after one round at the Cougar Classic.

Bundy, a native of Clayton, N.C., carded four birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey in her round. She went out in 37, missing par - or possibly even under-par - on the front side because of a double-bogey 7 on No. 9. She played the backside, however, in even-par 36 to finish tied for 16th place, four shots off the pace.

Four of UNCG's five golfers finished in the top-half of the 110-person field. Ana Lucia Martinez is tied for 38th place after a 75 on Sunday, while Courtney Taylor and Erica Creed both shot 76 to sit in a tie for 54th place.

North Carolina's Courtney Gunter sits atop the leaderboard after the opening round, shooting a 69. She has a one-shot lead over UCF's Katie Detlefsen and Florida's Mia Piccio.

North Carolina also had the team lead after an opening round 285. Minnesota is in second place after shooting 289 on Sunday, followed by South Carolina (291) and Florida (292).

Monday's second round gets underway at 8 a.m. with UNCG beginning play in the 8:09 a.m. group.
