Creed leads Spartans on first day at Landfall Tradition
WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCG senior Erica Creed shot an opening round 74 Friday afternoon to sit in a tie for 19th place, four shots off the lead after the opening round at the Landfall Tradition.
The Spartans carded an opening round 318 as a team to sit in 18th place. Sixth-ranked Duke and No. 32-ranked Texas are tied atop the leaderboard at 291. Fifteen of the 18 teams in the tournament are ranked in the top 50 according to Golfstat.
Duke's Kim Donovan, NC State's Carolina Ellington and Northwestern's Katherine Perry are all tied atop the individual leaderboard at two-under par 70. Creed is four shots back after overcoming an early double-bogey. Beginning her day at No. 10, the native of Kernersville, N.C., had a double-bogey on No. 12, but bounced back with birdie on No. 13 and then ran off nine consecutive pars.
Saturday's second round will be started with tee times off Nos. 1 and 10. UNCG will begin off No. 10 starting with the 8:30 a.m. group.
