Women's golf adds Grimsley product Morgan Cranford for 2011-12

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG has signed Grimsley High School product Morgan Cranford to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Spartans next season, women's golf coach Emily Marron announced Wednesday.

Cranford is a two-time all-conference performer for Grimsley and was the 2010 Metro Conference Player of the Year. She was the Central Region runner-up, falling in a playoff, and posted a fifth-place finish at the 4A state championship. She is a three-time state tournament participant.

"We are excited about Morgan joining our program," Marron said. "Morgan has had some success at the junior and high school levels, but I truly believe her best golf is definitely ahead of her, and I am looking forward to watching her progress in college. She is an extremely hard worker, and the team will benefit from her strong work ethic."

Cranford is currently ranked 21st in the state by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association and is ninth in the class of 2011.
