UNCG sits in 15th in SunTrust Gator Women’s Invite
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior Begonia Sarabia, making her first appearance for UNCG, shot a 3-over-par 73 in the first of the day's two rounds to lead the Spartans' efforts in the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational on Sunday. Through 36 holes of the 54-hole event, UNCG stands 15th of 17 teams, nine of which are ranked in the nation's Top 50.
Sarabia, a transfer from the University of Miami, shot an 84 in the second round and paces a tight group of Spartans at 17-over-par 157. She is tied for 58th in the field and is one stroke ahead of three teammates, Courtney Taylor, Erica Creed and Ana Martinez.
Florida, the event's host, leads the way at 12-over 572 on the 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course. Play resumes via shotgun start at 8:30 Monday morning.
The Spartans lead Missouri and Stetson at the two-thirds mark of the 39th annual event, one of the most prestigious in women's college golf.
