UNCG tied for 14th after first day of Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – Senior Erica Creed's 3-over-par 75 on Friday led UNCG to a 14th-place tie after the first day of play at the 17-team Bryan National Collegiate, a prestigious event it co-hosts with Wake Forest at the Champions Course at Bryan Park.

The Spartans are seeking to meet or exceed their previous best in the tournament, achieved when they claimed 10th out of 15 teams in 2000. The championship, which has attracted 13 of the nation's top 50 teams, is in its 14th year. Only three other comprehensive tournaments this spring among the 30 conducted nationwide have had more current top-50 teams than the Bryan's total.

UNCG's other performances on Friday came from Ana Lucia Martinez (77), Begona Sarabia (78), Lizzie Bundy (81) and Courtney Taylor (82). The Spartans are even with NC State and UNC Wilmington at 311. That's 10 shots clear of the College of Charleston.

Play resumes at 8:30 Saturday morning by shotgun start.
