UNCG sixth after first two rounds of Lady Seahawk Classic
WALLACE, N.C. – Erica Creed shot consecutive 79s on Monday to lead the UNCG women's golf team to a sixth-place standing after 36 of 54 holes in the 11th annual Lady Seahawk Classic.
The Spartans' total of 630 gives them a comfortable, nine-stroke lead over UNC Wilmington, the event's host. UNCG is two shots behind Longwood for fifth in the 10-team field, which completes play Tuesday at River Landing Golf Club.
Ana Lucia Martinez, the Spartans' top finisher in their most recent event, the Bryan National Collegiate, delivered the third-best round of the day with a 1-over-par 73 in the afternoon. Amy Otteson and Amber Littman of East Carolina shot 72 in the first round for the Pirates, who lead the field by 13 strokes. Old Dominion, Elon, James Madison and Longwood round out the top five.
The Spartans will seek to maintain their edge over UNCW, which entered the week ahead of the Spartans in the golfstat.com ratings, and to advance up the leader board over the 6,011-yard, par-72 course.
Creed is tied for 17th among individuals. Teammates Begona Sarabia, Courtney Taylor and Lizzie Bundy are within five shots of Creed.
