Spartans finish sixth at SoCon Championship

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Senior Erica Creed became the third player in UNCG history finish in the top 11 in three Southern Conference tournaments when she shot a final-round 75 on Tuesday. The Spartans placed sixth in the 10-team event with a three-day total of 956 over the par-72 Moss Creek Golf Club course.

Creed's 54-hole score of 16-over-par 232 was good for a share of 11th place. She tied for ninth in 2009 and for fifth in 2008, and she joins Jennifer Gleason (eighth or better from 2001-03) and Lotta Jonson (eighth or better from 1998-2000) as Spartans finishing 11th or higher in three SoCon championship events. Jonson won the 1999 title.

Ana Lucia Martinez took 15th for UNCG and Courtney Taylor was 29th as play concluded on the 6,005-yard layout.

Chattanooga (900) cruised to victory over the College of Charleston (930) and Furman (934). The Spartans defeated Samford, Wofford, Appalachian State and The Citadel to improve to 71-31 in head-to-head play in their 14 years of SoCon championship participation.

Lizzie Bundy was named to the league's All-Freshman team. She becomes the second Spartan so honored, joining Taylor, the conference's Freshman of the Year in 2010.
