Bjornsdottir And Taylor Earn Golf All-America Scholar Honors
UNCG women’s golfers Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) and Courtney Taylor (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook) have been named All-American Scholars by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The criteria for selection to the All-America Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.

UNCG Names Sarah Sargent Women’s Golf Coach
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sarah Sargent, a former LPGA Tour and Duramed Futures Tour member, has been named head women’s golf coach at UNCG, Director of Athletics Kim Record announced Wednesday. Sargent spent six years on the Futures Tour and two years on the LPGA Tour before heading into collegiate coaching at Furman and Coastal Carolina.

Emily Marron Named Women’s Golf Coach At UCF
UNCG women’s golf coach Emily Marron has resigned her position and has been named the women’s golf coach at the University of Central Florida, Director of Athletics Kim Record announced Friday. A national search for Marron’s replacement will begin immediately.

UNCG men finish fifth, women fourth in SoCon all-sports races
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s men finished fifth and its women finished fourth in the final standings of the Southern Conference’s all-sports races. Appalachian State earned the league’s Commissioner’s Cup for excellence in men’s athletics while College of Charleston was awarded the Germann Cup for the best overall women’s athletics program.

Men’s cross country and track athlete Joey Thompson and women’s soccer goalkeeper Kelsey Kearney earned UNCG’s male and female Spartan Awards.

Beyond Box Scores: Cnops happy to be a 4-percenter
You can call Fanny Cnops a 4-percenter. And unless you somehow disapprove of excellence, that’s not a knock. According to the comprehensive rankings of Golfweek, the UNCG Spartan from Gent, Belgium, is among the top 4 percent of all players in NCAA women’s golf, and she’s doing it as a freshman. In the process, she has become the first Spartan to qualify for an NCAA regional as an individual in nine years.

Spartans sweep SoCon awards, finish second at league tournament
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – UNCG’s Fanny Cnops was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year and Emily Marron was tabbed the league’s coach of the year, but the Spartans couldn’t hold off a strong, late charge Tuesday by Chattanooga, who rallied past UNCG at the Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship for their third straight title.
