Spartans slip to third during second round of Starmount Fall Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG shot a second-round 308 and slipped into a tie for third at the Starmount Fall Classic, Monday at Starmount Forest Country Club.

The Spartans shot 612 (304-308) during the first two rounds and are tied with Southern Conference rival Furman. East Tennessee State leads the 14-team tournament at 606. Maryland is second at 611, followed by UNCG and Furman. Georgia State (613), Campbell (618), James Madison (622), Charleston Southern (632), Gardner-Webb (634), and Western Carolina and Elon (t-637) make up the rest of the top 10.

Georgia State's Charlotte Lorenzen shot a tournament-low 69 during the second round and leads the tournament at 2-over par 144.

UNCG freshman Fanny Cnops endured and up-and-down day but still managed to card a 74. Cnops broke her driver on the first hole and shot five-over par on the back nine but finished with a birdie on 18 to stay in contention. Cnops is tied for second at 146 (72-74).

Ana Lucia Martinez is tied for 16th overall for the Spartans after a 75 left her at 154. Courtney Taylor carded a 79 and is tied for 24th at 156.

Begona Sarabia is tied for 29th at 157 (77-80), while Berglind Bjornsdottir is tied for 37th at 159 (78-81).

The third and final round is Tuesday, with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. There is no admission charge for spectators.
