GREENVILLE, N.C. – UNCG shot a final-round 305 to finish fourth at the East Carolina Lady Pirate Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Greenville Country Club.
Despite struggling during the last of the tournament's three rounds, the Spartans still managed to finish with a 54-hole school-record score of 890 (292-291-305). Maryland captured team honors in the 20-team field by finishing at 879, followed by Georgia State (882) and East Carolina (887).
Freshman Fanny Cnops completed play as UNCG's top finisher, coming in 10th at 218 (69-70-79). Cnops entered the final round as the individual leader but carded three bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey on Tuesday. Still, her overall effort earned her a third consecutive top 10 finish.
Old Dominion's Samantha Morrell (-4) was the individual medalist.
For UNCG, Ana Lucia Martinez finished tied for 20th at 223 (74-72-77), while Begona Sarabia completed play tied for 23rd at 224 (73-74-77).
Courtney Taylor tied for 41st at 229 (78-75-76), and Berglind Bjornsdottir's team-best 75 on Tuesday helped her finish tied for 62nd at 234 (82-77-75).
The Spartans close out their 2011 fall schedule at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, Oct. 23-24 at Kiawah Island Resort.
