Spartans close fall season at Palmetto Intercollegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C.—UNCG women's golf team closes out the 2011 fall season at the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by College of Charleston, Oct. 23-24 at Oak Point in Kiawah Island, S.C.

The 54-hole tournament features a field of 18 teams, including Southern Conference foes The Citadel, Elon, Western Carolina and host College of Charleston.

UNCG Notes: The Spartans are looking for their fourth straight top 5 finish after placing fourth in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate two weeks ago … freshman Fanny Cnops currently leads the Southern Conference in stroke average at 72.55, and is ranked 58th nationally by Golfstat.com … Cnops is ranked as the No. 11 freshman, and has finished in the top 20 in each her first four collegiate events, including top 10 finishes in each of the last three … this is UNCG's second appearance at a College of Charleston-sponsored event this fall ... the Spartans finished 19th at the Cougar Classic in mid-September.

Tournament Notes: The Palmetto Intercollegiate in in its 14th year … this is UNCG's first appearance in the tournament.
