Women’s golf moves up during second round at Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – UNCG women's golf moved up one spot to a tie for third after shooting a 297 during Monday's second round at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.
The Spartans are tied with Campbell at 604 with one round left in the 33-team tournament. UNCG trails tournament leader Augusta State (582) and second-place Elon (599).
Playing the Oak Point Course, three players showed significant improvement over their Sunday rounds. As a team, the Spartans enjoyed improved by 10 strokes over Sunday.
UNCG freshman Fanny Cnops enjoyed another stellar round by carding a 1-under 71, grabbing a share of the individual lead at 143 (72-71). Cnops enjoyed three birdies and played the final 11 holes in 2-under par. She is tied with Erin Selfridge of Daytona State College.
Fellow freshman Berglind Bjornsdottir enjoyed the best round of her young career, shooting even par 72 and moving into a tie for 45th at 154 (82-72).
Ana Lucia Martinez was two-over on Monday at 74, and is tied for 54th at 155 (81-74). Courtney Taylor is tied for 75th after an 80 left her at 157, while Begona Sarabia is tied for 87th at 158 (77-81).
